Spain 2016: Valencia—Let’s talk Paella!

If you want to taste an authentic paella, you must try paella Valenciana. However, I’m partial to the seafood paella, especially when I find myself near the coast. On our drive from Barcelona to Madrid, we stopped in Valencia for a wonderful taste of the quiet seaside town, complete with delicious paella and a walk along the palm tree lined beach.

Spain 2016: Barcelona—Beyond Gaudi

Gaudi’s creations are definitely all the rage, but the city’s other architecture doesn’t lack for beauty and intricacy either. And then there’s the unique design of its city blocks, the work of visionary urban planner Ildefons Cerdà, who created the octagonal blocks, which he considered ideal for traffic flow, as well as sunlight and ventilation.

Gaudi’s architectural creations are an awe-inspiring mix of technical skill and artistic flair. I was beyond delighted to share my visit to Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, and Casa Milà with my husband and my parents. Our senses got overwhelmed quickly—but in a good way!

Spain 2016: Barcelona—A Walk Around Town

Barcelona, the capital of Spain’s Catalonia region, is known for its rich art and architecture, as well as for its beaches on the Balearic Sea. And of course, the ingenious creations of Antoni Gaudi never fail to impress (think La Sagrada Família church, La Pedrera, and Casa Batllo). In between marveling at architectural eye candy, one should also get a taste of the city’s traditional food with a side of flamenco.
