Cape Mears Lighthouse, Oregon

Despite standing only 38 feet high, Cape Mears Lighthouse-the shortest in Oregon-guided ships through the fog effectively (with the help of a 200 ft cliff base and fancy French lens) for 73 years. Now subject to occasional vandalism, the small white lighthouse welcomes visitors who want to hear about Tillamook history and shares the spotlight with the other attractions at Cape Mears Scenic Point, such as the famed “Octopus Tree“- an unusual Sitka spruce tree, the largest colony of nesting common murres, miles of hiking trails, and whale sightings.

Pacific Coast – Rockaway & Cannon Beach; Terrible Tilly Lighthouse

Majestic rocks rising from misty waters, fresh seafood, moody waves, and mysterious lighthouses all await along the Oregon coast. We had to stop by the famous Cannon Beach and get the story about Terrible Tilly lighthouse. Rockaway Beach was a hidden coastal gem and we celebrated the arrival of fall season with a cup of hot clam chowder.

Coast Town Charm: Port Townsend, Washington

When the weather is right, Port Townsend is a great little coastal town, charming and serene. Deer roam the neighborhood, grazing among Victorian ginger bread houses, and assorted seabirds huddle and hunt on Hudson Beach.
