Victoria, BC – Canada

A short boat ride from Port Angeles across the Juan de Fuca Strait is the Canadian city of Victoria. The city’s British colonial past is reflected in its architecture, featuring Victorian buildings and elaborate gardens.

The Black Ball ferry line allows canine friends on board, so we embarked our two fur balls, leaving our car at one of the parking lots across from the port. The thirty minute trip was smooth. Victoria port welcomed us with beautiful blooms spelling the name of the city on its banks. We walked away from the crowds, making our way to the Fisherman’s Wharf.

Situated just around the corner from the inner harbor, Fisherman’s Wharf is a gingerbread explosion of colorful houseboats and fun boardwalk eateries. We strolled and admired the quaint and quirky residences above the Pacific Ocean.

For lunch, we had an AMAZING ahi tuna sandwich at Smoke and Anchor – it had the perfect combination of fresh flavors and textures!

We walked some more, admiring the local homes and stopping to rest in the park overlooking the wharf – our dogs simply refused to go any farther and plopped down in the grass for a nap.

There were imposing governmental buildings – including the Parliament Building towering over the port – old historic-looking buildings, lots of souvenir shops, the imposing Hotel Fairmont Empress, a port-side market, all unified in a pretty picture made perfect by the colorful flowers adorning each space in between.
